It sucks.

If you are me, it can take over.

It doesn’t take much for some to begin to feel overwhelmed.  Then the anxiety kicks in ( again, if you are me…) and you find yourself perseverating, up at night, heart pounding, thoughts racing, flutters all over.

Does that sound at all familiar to anyone else?  I know I am out there… but am I alone on this?

I thought a great blog post for today would focus on little, quick ways that we can reduce our stress without a huge time committment…

1. Eat a spinach salad.

1 kg of Spinach leaves separated from the stem...Stress depletes your stores of magnesium, and spinach is a great way to get some of it back.

2. Throw some salmon on that salad and WOW- you are even better!

The awesome Omega-3’s in salmon (or other fatty fish) helps to regulate cortisol, the hormone in our bodies that is released under stress.

3. Do some focused breathing.

Sit in a quiet space ( if you are like me, you may have to lock yourself in your bedroom and pretend to be on a tropical island to get some quiet…).  Just breathe.  Focus on bringing the air in and out of your body and nothing else.  Do this for 5 minutes.

4.  Think about being relaxed.

Think about a time when you were relaxed and go there… in your mind.

5. Be Mindful of your surroundings

Stop for a moment.  Look around.  Take note of the details of the leaves on the trees, where you are.  Take note of how your body feels.  Take note of the things that you are grateful for.  Bring yourself to this time and this moment, right now.  Find gratitude in the small things and the details.  This can help to bring you back to center and perspective.

I think I will go listen to my own advice and travel to a remote island with sand and sun.  I am going to sit on my lounge chair watching my boys jump around in crystal clear waves with laughter filling the air….   Oh yes, let’s not forget the Mojito in my right hand…. yes…

I am really visualizing huh?

What helps you when you feel stressed?
