A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, assumptions, Beauty and the Beast, birthday tradition, broadway musical, Cabaret, Jesus Christ Superstar, Joseph, Kiss of the Spider Woman, mom, musical, Oklahoma, Phantom of the Opera, seeing things differently, tradition, wicked
My mom and I have a birthday tradition that until last night, had been somewhat dormant. For about ten years, on my birthday, we would see a broadway musical.
In running down the list the other day we realized that we have seen so many:
Phantom of the Opera, Le Miserables, Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar, Beauty and the Beast, A Funny Thing Happened on the way to the Forum, Kiss of the Spider Woman, Cabaret, The King and I, Oklahoma, Crazy for You, and I am sure there are more that I have left out… so you see, quite a tradition!
So on a whim, we jumped in the car and went to see Wicked!
It was so great and what I loved about it (besides the green skin, great voices, hilarious jokes, etc…) was that it was a reminder about considering things in a different light.
You get to throw out your assumptions about the “good witch” and the “wicked witch” and find that it may not have been the way you always thought it to be.
I wont ruin the plot for you, if you haven’t seen it…
But of course, me being me, I have some philosophical life lesson that pops up when I get to go out for a night on the town 🙂
I suppose we should all stop sometimes, throw our assumptions out the window, and try to see things in a different light.
What assumptions will you set aside this week in order to see things differently??
